MORE INFORMATION ON KAI
Kai was originally brought into one of our partner kennels in Spain with a lot of wounds and trauma behind him. Although his physical wounds healed, the impact of his past stayed with him and, as a very nervous dog, he was sadly overlooked for many years. Kai has now been living in the UK for around a year with his foster family and their two rescued Chihuahuas, and the progress he has made since leaving kennel life has been huge.
When he first arrived, Kai was a frightened little dog who barely wanted to come out of his crate. His foster family have done wonders with him and, little by little, he has become much more comfortable with home life. He now sleeps upstairs with his foster mum, will take himself off up there when he wants some quiet time, and is happy to sit with the family in the living room and approach them for a fuss.
Kai is still nervous of some people and is particularly unsure around the younger adult in his current home, so we feel an adult-only home would be the best fit for him.
His cheekier side is starting to come through too. Kai loves shopping day and has been known to steal a loaf of bread from the bag and take it outside to hide in the garden!
He currently lives with two Chihuahuas and, while he is comfortable sharing his home with them, he doesn't engage with them a huge amount. A recent meet-up with another Podenco brought out a much more playful side of him, and he clearly loved having another pointy-nosed dog to interact with. We would therefore really like Kai's new home to have another friendly, confident dog, ideally another Podenco/pointy nose dog, who can help him continue to flourish.
Kai needs a quieter, more rural home with a secure garden. The garden really is his happy place and having that safe outdoor space has been incredibly important in helping him settle. He can still be easily startled by unexpected noises from neighbouring properties, so a peaceful setting would suit him best.
Kai loves his walks and walks calmly on the lead. He really enjoys getting out and exploring, but is happiest away from the noise and bustle of busy areas.
Kai is neutered, vaccinated, and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now.
