Hope For Podencos – More than a Rescue

I found  out about Hope For Podencos in a very round-about way.  My partner and I had just bought a house and wanted a dog to help make it a home.  We found Lilly at the local rescue and were intrigued as we hadn’t heard of the Podenco breed before.  We fell in love with her and took her home.  Fast forward a year, and I was tagged in a post with Lilly on Facebook that Irene saw and she got in touch….

We found out that - through no fault of Lilly and Hope For Podencos - she had ended up in the care of another rescue.  Hope for Podencos tried so hard to get her back but (thankfully!) we got in there first.  I started to follow the charity,  kept in regular touch with Irene and, in the summer of 2018, was lucky enough to spend time out at the centre volunteering.  No one was surprised when I came home with another dog!  I fell in love with many, but Loki stole my heart and I knew he would be a good match to Lilly.

Not only have I been lucky enough to have two amazing dogs because of Hope For Podencos, one of the things that sticks out the most for me is that it is more than just a rescue.  It is a community.  Through that initial (and out of the blue) contact with Irene, I have had one of the best experiences of my life volunteering at the centre, have made friends and connections across the world and enjoy nothing more than seeing what the rescued pods get up to in the Happy Days Ahead group.

Hope For Podencos has certainly had a huge impact on my life.  It would be great to hear how others came to hear about the charity.
