MORE INFORMATION ON YUFFIE

Yuffie was surrendered along with 4 other adult podencos and 12 puppies from a hunter. Some of the puppies were her own. The group of podencos in general were very shy and timid and had clearly lacked socialisation. Yuffie was a fantastic mum and did a great job of raising her puppies who have all since gone one to find homes of there own.

Yuffie can still be very timid and shy around strangers until she learns to trust them, but around the regular volunteers at the kennel she was a happy, sweet girl who enjoyed a fuss and playing with people, toys and other dogs. She has found the transport and transition into a home a bit scary and is still nervy and shy in the home but there have been lots of improvements and she is making process. She is currently living with another dog and there is also a 12 year old in the home, who is very gentle with her and Yuffie responds well to this and has a lovely bond with her. Walks are still a bit daunting for Yuffie, so at the moment she is enjoying pottering around the home and garden and she will work up to this.

We have seen from her time in the shelter that once she really knows you, she is very happy to come up to you to ask for cuddles and is happy to be picked up for a fuss. She really is a lovely girl, with such a striking deep coloured coat and a slightly darker muzzle. She has been cat tested and could live in a home with cats. She is currently living in a small town/village location in an area that is quite quiet and this seems to suit her, so we’d be looking for a similar kind of environment for her. A garden is essential so she can take her time to adjust before needing to go on walks. Given that she is living successfully with a 12 year old, we think she could continue living with respectful and patient children of a similar age of older..

Yuffie is a high flight risk whilst she is still settling and adjusting, and did manage to escape from the foster home which was a nerve wracking time for all. Thankfully she made her way back to home but any adopter must take this risk incredibly seriously and a tracker is a must for her, to be worn at all times.

We know that in time, she will blossom - we saw this in the shelter with steady, regular contact with the same people. Another dog in the home is important for Yuffie to learn from. She has formed a lovely bond with the resident dog in foster and defintiely takes some confidence from having her around.

Yuffie is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases excluding Ehrlichiosis - as already stated she has tested positive and is receiving treatment for this, so we can retest for the all clear. She is passported and available for adoption now.
