MORE INFORMATION ON REMO

Remo came into rescue in March 2026 after being found by the police in Almería in a terrible condition. He was extremely thin, hadn't eaten for two days and initially refused both food and water. It soon became clear that Remo had also suffered a serious injury to his tongue, believed to have been caused by contact with processionary caterpillars, whose toxins can cause severe tissue damage. Thankfully, he didn't require surgery and, following hospitalisation, fluids, antibiotics and pain relief, he began to recover.

Remo has lost a significant amount of his tongue, so he has had to adapt the way he eats, drinks and even cleans himself. He has learnt how to drink by lowering his mouth into a large bowl and gulping the water, and eating certainly isn't a problem for him! Because he can't groom himself as effectively as other dogs, he may occasionally need a helping hand with a wipe down, which fortunately he rather enjoys.

Now recovered, Remo is enjoying life in foster in Spain, where he lives indoors alongside Podencos of different ages, sizes and personalities. He coexists well with them, although he isn't particularly interested in playing and can become a little frustrated when the others are play fighting as its a very busy home full of dogs. His fosterer feels he would prefer to be an only dog and would lap up all the fuss for himself, but he could also live alongside a calm, compatible canine companion.

Like many rescues, Remo can sometimes guard his food around other dogs, so this will need to be managed sensibly in his new home if he is living with another dog. We always recommend feeding separately for any new dogs.

He enjoys his walks and walks well on the lead, and his fosterer has seen very little hunting instinct from him so far. He is around 80% housetrained and will need some continued support while settling into a new routine.

After everything Remo has been through, he has adapted remarkably well. His missing tongue makes him a little different, and means his family will need to make a few small adjustments for him, but it certainly doesn't stop him enjoying life. He is ready for someone to see beyond his past and give him the comfortable home he deserves.

Remo is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now.
