MORE INFORMATION ON SPUD
Spud was found with Foxy and some other dogs at a hunters kennel is a really poor state, living in filthy conditions and severely underweight. He also had mange, was very dehydrated and had worms. He also had a condition where his penis wouldn’t retract so he had to undergo a small procedure to correct this. He’s all healed now and won’t need any further treatment for this.
Because of his post op recovery, Spud ended up in a foster home in Spain where he is living with a resident podenco who he gets on very well with and seeks comfort from. He loves to snuggle up together and its important that Spud has another affectionate resident dog in the home, ideally a youngish companion as he loves to play. He is a lovely friendly boy with people and enjoys human affection too. He has moments where he is more unsure of things around the home - particularly when encountering something new for the first time so patience and positive reinforcement will be important for him.
He loves his toys, walks well on the harness and lead. He can be a cheeky boy (like most podenco puppies) and food is his vice. He is constantly on the look out for food and will take any opportunity so this will need to be managed in a home so he doesn’t get his paws on anything he shouldn’t! He will also need to be fed away from the other dogs (this is always our guidance anyway). Other than needing another dog for snuggle and to play with, he’s a versatile little chap that could live in a lot of different types of home. We think he’d do well around children so would adopt to a family.
Podenco puppies/adolescents are very cute, but they need consistent training, patience and understanding especially through the adolescent phase where we find a lot of people tend to struggle. If you apply to adopt a podenco puppy, please ensure you have properly thought through the challenges you might face whilst they mature into a wonderful adult where you can then reap the rewards of your hard work. It is a wonderful experience to bring up a pod puppy, but it is not for the faint hearted!
Spud will be neutered, is vaccinated and has tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now.
