Jelle was found in a pererra on Fuerteventura and was then moved to a foster home. He will be travelling to the mainland in April and will be available for adoption and onward travel after that.

Jelle is an incredibly friendly and social dog. He is affectionate, sympathetic, and very people-oriented. He clearly enjoys living in a family environment and feels most comfortable in a calm, home setting. He gets along well with other dogs and shows no problematic behavior toward them. He is social, gentle, and respectful in canine interactions. In new or busy situations, Jelle can be a little shy. He is sensitive to stress and environmental pressure. When exposed to too many stimuli, he may become restless. However, once he is in a calm and safe environment, this behavior disappears. In a low-stress setting, Jelle relaxes, stops repetitive movements, and shows his true, balanced personality.

When Jelle was first taken out of the pererra, he showed clear signs of stress. He used to bite his tail and walk in circles continuously without being able to settle. This behaviour was a direct response to the shelter environment. After moving into a home, he changed dramatically. Over the past seven to eight months, he has made enormous progress and has become much calmer and more emotionally stable. Jelle is a dog who is strongly influenced by his surroundings. In a stable home with people who offer him patience, structure, and emotional safety, he truly thrives. He would likely do very well in a household with another calm dog and a predictable routine so he can fully relax and forget his past. A garden is also a must for Jelle so he can adjust to his new surroundings in his own time before needing to go out and about on walks.

Physically, Jelle is naturally very slim. Due to the underlying stress, he burns a lot of energy and has difficulty gaining weight, even when given generous amounts of food. We expect that once he settles into his forever home, he would be able to put on some weight. He will need some time and patience, but he has a really soulful way about him and we know he will be incredibly rewarding for whoever takes him on and offers him safety and security.
