This is Shadow, our Maneto.
He doesn't need a perfect home. Just the right one.

What Shadow’s foster family have to say about him.

“Shadow is a joy to be around! All he really wants from life is a lap to sit on. He can be a little cautious around new people, but as soon as he decides you are safe he will be climbing right on top of you, no matter where you are sat or what you are trying to do. He can be a little obsessive and opinionated, and sometimes needs an enforced cuddle to calm down as he is easily overstimulated. But he is so clever and quick to learn :) He just needs someone who can give him some extra care 💖

What is life with Shadow like?

Living with Shadow is about understanding a sensitive young dog who is still learning how to feel safe in the world around him.

At home, Shadow is affectionate, intelligent and enjoys being close to the people he trusts. He thrives on routine, predictability and calm surroundings, and forms strong bonds with those who take the time to understand him.

Like many dogs who have experienced significant change during their early lives, Shadow can become overwhelmed by busy environments and unfamiliar situations. He also displays compulsive light and shadow chasing behaviours, which are being managed with the support of a professional behaviourist. His behaviour plan is already in place, and his future adopter will receive ongoing guidance and support.

Shadow isn't looking for perfection. He is looking for a patient and understanding home that can continue helping him build confidence and develop healthy coping strategies. In return, he offers the opportunity to form an incredibly rewarding bond with a dog who has so much potential still ahead of him.

What kind of environment helps Shadow thrive?

Shadow is looking for a calm, predictable home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. While he is affectionate, intelligent and eager to bond with his people, he can become overwhelmed by busy environments and unfamiliar situations.

A quieter home with a consistent routine will help Shadow feel safe and allow him to continue making progress. He would be best suited to an adult-only home with adopters who understand that trust takes time and that progress is often built through patience, structure and understanding.

Shadow is currently working with a professional behaviourist and has a tailored behaviour plan in place. His future adopter will receive ongoing support and guidance to help them understand his needs and continue the work already started.

We know Shadow is not the right dog for every home, but for the right person, we believe he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him. We are committed to supporting both Shadow and his adopter every step of the way.

I LOVE Shadow, tell me more!

  • Date of Birth: 6th May 2024
    Gender: Male
    Color: Tan and White
    Size: 35cm (to the withers)/11kg

  • Absolutely, he is currently based in Birmingham and available for meet and greets! Your own location is not an issue as the HFP team can help facilitate to bring him closer to you.

  • Shadow is currently living with another dog - but we think are both a little too excitable together so we are looking for a solo dog home or a home with another well balanced dog.

  • Shadow has lived with children before - but as we are looking for a calm home to help him relax and get into a routine we think a home with young adults would suit him best.

  • No Shadow is not suitable for a home with cats.

  • Yes, Shadow knows where to do his business!

  • Shadow can be left for a few hours once settled, but this would need to be built up gradually in his new home. He is crate trained and would need to be in his crate when left - with or without another dog in the home.

  • Shadow loves being in the car and just sits and watches the world go by on long drives.

  • Shadow needs to walk on a long line as he can find tension in the lead anxiety inducing and this makes him more prone to be reactive to other dogs when out and about.

  • Shadow is currently living in the UK and looking for a home here. As we already received an initial adoption fee when he first arrived into the UK, he will come under our rehoming fee - £340 (if no transport required).

HFP will support Shadow’s adopter throughout his transition and settling period.
