And that’s a wrap!

First of all, we’d like to say a big big thank you to all of our wonderful supporters, adopters, fosters, partners and friends who have watched Hope For Podencos go from strength to strength, picked us up during the tough times, and cheered us on during the good. Without you all, this wonderful pod filled community and extended family wouldn’t exist and we are extremely grateful that you have all joined us on this journey.

 

2024 was always set to be a mammoth year of change and growth, with our founder Steve returning to the UK, the centre in Albacete becoming home to another association and their precious dogs, and the HFP team gearing up to become a UK Charity. We spent the first part of the year working with the incredible Galgos Del Sol, whilst we found our feet working in a new way and expanding our Spanish network so that we could utilise the foundations that Irene and Steve had so tirelessly built in order to continue the work they started and help as many pods as we could. We then forged partnerships with some lesser known associations where the pods were invisible, and undertook a 1500km trip across Spain to visit them and their dogs which was a humbling, and very emotional experience. During that trip, the new team of course had our very first in-person rescue experience with the missing mountain pup Spaceman, a memory none of us will ever forget.

Over this year, we’ve successfully placed 76 pods into their forever homes. That's 76 individual journeys for dogs and their adopters - how amazing is that? It brings us an immense amount of joy to see them all living their best lives and thriving rather than just existing - to know that we can play a part in this is just the best reward we could ever ask for.

We do find it quite difficult to give ourselves a break and recognise our achievements, as a team we are always striving for more, reaching higher and working towards our long term goal of a UK HFP Centre. It’s going to take a lot of work to make that happen, but with the drive and passion - nothing is impossible, you can read all about this on β€˜Our Future’ page on our website. There have been ups and downs of course, it’s never plain sailing and with us being ordinary people with regular lives, full time jobs, families, and our own dogs we really do pour every ounce of spare time into HFP, on many occasions, we don’t even have the time spare but we do it because we love it, we love pods, and we love all of you.

In 2025, we want to grow bigger, stronger and better. We have so many wonderful plans, and want to continue developing our working relationships with our Spanish network, our partner small businesses and of course our HFP Champions Charlie, Nala & Monkey.

So thank you 2024, you have been incredible and here’s hoping 2025 will be even better. Happy New Year to all of you - see you on the other side!

Free Spanish Hounds Peaceful Protest

As we look ahead to 2025, one of the first things in our calendar is the Free Spanish Hounds peaceful protest that will take place on Saturday 1st February.

Will you join is in London, Manchester or Glasgow? Please sign up here if you haven’t already so that we can contact you in advance of the event for final details and also get an accurate idea of numbers.

The 2024 march was another of our proudest moments of this year, as we were a core part of the small team that organised the event in London where 200 people and 100 dogs marched in protest at the exclusion of Podencos and other Spanish hunting dogs from animal welfare laws, leading to their subsequent abuse and suffering. It was a truly humbling moment seeing so many 2 and 4 legged supporters congregating in honour of these amazing dogs. New friends were made, stories shared, tears were shed and awareness was raised. We’re so excited to do it all again! We already have 320 people and 250 dogs signed up across the three locations and expect that to keep growing over the next few weeks. You can see a film of this years event to give you an idea of what it’s all about.

We’re also so proud that two of our wonderful adopters make the official Free Spanish Hounds martingale collars and fleece vests for the dogs to wear - they make such a huge impact. A big thank you to Elaine of Hound Heart Collars and Linda of Jaspiroo.
